We believes learning occurs in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom, through work and volunteer experiences. To develop the skills necessitated to become a qualified, well-rounded and educated individual, to help assist in the development process, Career Planning & Development Center(CPDC) offers an program to help facilitate and co-curricular experiences, which documents their experience and may be used to satisfy provisions set by organizations that require academic recognition in order to secure an internship.
Career Planning & Development Center at Southern University has been established to act as a liaison between Southern University and Corporate Sector to coordinate placement opportunities for students/graduates. CPDC is also providing a platform for its Alumni to establish linkages with the Southern University as well as the fellow Alumni. Since its establishment it has been involved in concerted efforts to help the students of Southern University select the most appropriate fields for their future career and to develop their personal & professional skills to the maximum possible extent. Through CPDC’s continued efforts, hundreds of Southern students have secured Internships/Jobs in the renowned Organizations.

Database
All Southern students are requested to provide the CPDC with softcopy of their updated Resume. CPDC is in the process of organizing its Alumni database for “Southern Alumni ”by registering all Southern’s (Past/ Present). We would like you to cooperate with us in this process. Kindly fill out and send us back the “Alumni Registration Form” (available on University Website) at the earliest. All information that would permit your identification will be kept confidential. Moreover, kindly e-mail us your updated resume at [email protected]Kindly keep us abreast of your professional achievements to share with Southern’s through Southern Newsletter.
Career Counseling.
The Career Development Staff is available to meet with you for a 15-minute counseling appointment to discuss your career development needs. Stop in and get the advice on career exploration, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing and job search strategies and more. Call career center to schedule an appointment.
Career Assessments Tools- Self-assessments can help you determine which careers are best suited for you by taking stock of your skills, interests, personality, and values. CPDC offers the opportunity for students to take the Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory. If you are interested in taking an assessment, please make an appointment with a career counselor.
Career Development Workshops-CPDC hosts a variety of workshops to help you develop the essential skills needed for the job search process. Each month you may attend one or more of the following workshops:

• Job and Internship Search
• The Ins and Outs of Networking

CPDC provides an overview of the tools available to students in their job and internship searches. learn about the Student Employment. Finding employment opportunities, whether a full time job, an internship, or a work study position, can feel overwhelming at times. CPDC are here to give you the tools to find the opportunities that are right for you. Meet with a Career Counselor to set up a job or internship search strategy unique to you!
